In the beiginning at the place of later castle in Melsztyn existed probably a wooden watchtower, raised in 11th century. Within years 1340-1352 castellan of Cracow, Spytek Leliwita from Melsztyn built the castle here, expanded later by Jordan family. The building resisted swedish invasion in 17th century, but not much time later - in 1771 - has been burnt down during Bar Confederation. A century later, within 1879-1885 the castle was belayed as permanent ruin.
